A stroll in Bishops Stortford" - one of many - Turn left out of the Nag's Head pub's side gate and follow Haymeads Lane round to the left until, just before the Golf Course, a path turns right along the side of some allotments. At the far end of this path, turn right and then left again along another path, emerging on Jenkins Lane. Turn right and follow the lane down to the main Hallingbury Road. Cross carefully to reach Rushy Mead nature reserve and follow any convenient paths straight on and left until you reach the River Stort. Turn right along the river and follow it, past Twyford Lock. Turn briefly left along the B1383 and pick up the river again, passing the bridge that leads to the mid-19th century malthouses off South Street. Take a little detour through these to visit the Rhodes Centre. When you reach Station Road, turn walk through the bus station, up the steps, straight and then briefly right along the London Road. Cross at the lights and walk straight up picturesque Warwick Road to find the Nags Head again at the top of the hill.
