Dear Walkers,As ever, bring a phone and my number with you if you come on a walk: 89264644325.
A summery selection of outings next week:
Monday, 15th June - A stroll around the 'Northern River Station' and possible boat trip... Meet at 11am outside Rechnoi Vokzal Metro Station (north end of the dark green line; exit near the BACK of the train). We will simply explore this area and possibly get tickets (350 roubles) for a boat trip around 1pm... the one I have my eye on is by hydrofoil so not very relaxing, but quite interesting as it goes all the way up to a forested area called Khvoiny Bor on the far side of Moscow's reservoirs. No time to disembark unfortunately; returns around 3pm. Anyone who wants to explore the park without the trip is also welcome, but will need to make their own way back to the metro (quite straightforward). about 4km on foot, medium-slow.
Thursday, 18th June - A hike through Kuskovo park and out of town... Meeting at 10am sharp at Ryazansky Prospekt Metro (south on the purple line; exit near the front of the train), we will walk through the woods to the eighteenth century palace. I am not planning to spend long in the grounds this year (just a quick visit to the Dutch house which was closed last year - about 40 roubles); We then walk on past more lakes, under the MKAD (!) to the "White Lake" with a lovely collection of Old Believer churches on the far bank. Walk round, ?? Swim (temperatures of 34C currently predicted!)?, explore the churches, explore the historic villages beyond and jump on a marshrutka back to Vykhino before we run out of time. Getting back to the metro about 3pm. Bring a sandwich for the beach. 10 km, medium-fast.
Friday, 19th June - Summer in Sokol. A chance to explore Sokol Village again. Meet outside Sokol metro at 11.30am (exit near the BACK of the train; turn RIGHT in the tunnel). We will have a quick wander though the cottages and then have a picnic in my garden - bring a sandwich. i'll try and do some drinks. After this, you can have more of an explore on your own or just chill... I will be heading back to the metro for 2pm. 3-4km, medium-slow.
ALSO: Are you interested in Russian Theatre? We have three tickets spare for a very interesting production of Ostrovsky's "Well Paid Job" (Dokhodnoe Mesto) at the Satirikon Theatre, Sheremetevskaya ulitsa 8, nearest metro Rizhskaya. The tickets are RUR 800 each and are in row 14 of the stalls. If you are interested, please email me or firstname.lastname@example.org
Finally, thanks to my fellow explorers in town and country this week, cheers Phoebe
